Stuttgart/Abu Dhabi  September 2012

The Abu Dhabi-based investment company Mubadala has appointed the Joint Venture of M+W Group and Commodore Contracting Co to design and build one of the largest commercial whole-sale data centre projects in the UAE. The order includes engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of two data centres, one located on a 40,000 m2 site in Abu Dhabi, the other on a 34,000 m2 site in Dubai. Each data centre will be built to green building regulations. In the first expansion phase each site will have 2,200 m2 white space area, both sites having the capacity to further expand this size as demand grows. They will be ready for occupancy by December 2013. With overall more than 13,000 m2 in the final stage they will be the largest data centres of this kind in the UAE.

The project is part of Mubadala’s strategic initiative to venture into the whole-sale, co-location data centre-services market. Both sites are of same kind and size following a modular design approach. Each data centre comprises of 6 independent data centre modules (PODs), and provides highest availability standards, which are rated at Tier 3+ based on international rating standards. Project management is done by EC Harris.

The buildings are designed according to green building regulations, and the provided energy systems are highly energy efficient with a power utilization ratio (PUE/Power usage effectiveness) of 1.7. For Abu Dhabi site a 2 Pearl Rating according to Estidama Regulations is pursued.
